Wait for Soleiman ShiraziSoleiman was born in Fars province, in a Jewish family with roots in the city of Shiraz. He grew up bilingual in Persian and Hebrew, and later studied Judaic and Islamicate manuscript traditions at university in Tehran. His work often focuses on the overlap between Jewish and Persian-Islamic letter-magic and amulet traditions, especially how Hebrew letter forms appear in Persian talismans. He emigrated to California as a young adult and now lives in Los Angeles, where he teaches Persian-language manuscript studies and consults on museum exhibitions.
What Soleiman listens for
- Who the sign is for and how you would like them named
- The intention you want the artwork to hold
- The language and visual tradition that feel right to you
His approach
Expect a measured conversation and room to revise your intention before you seal it. The resulting sign is an artwork for reflection, not a prediction, treatment, or guarantee of change.
